Players

Updated: 2020-04-23 00:20

Any team or squad can have a maximum of 35 players and a minimum of 19 players. You must have 2 (two) goalkeepers, 7 (seven) defenders and 10 (ten) forwards. This means that if you have the maximum number of players you are not able to take up any junior or buy any players. You cannot fire or sell a player if you have only the minimum number of players. Players purchased from the transfer market must be in your team for at least 28 days before you can fire or sell them.

To fire a player costs a base sum of 15 000 LHD.

Pay

All players have a salary that is paid once a week. The minimum salary is 7500 LHD/week. There is no "high" stop for salaries. Salary is based upon a players attributes (example, the better he is, higher attributes, the more money he will demand in pay). Salaries are negotiated before the begining of each new season and every time a player is on the transfer market. Again, it is a players attributes that determine his pay.

Experience

All players gain experience through playing matches at LiveHockey. The more important the game, the more experience a player will receive. Example, a qualifying match will give more experience than a friendly or training match.

Age also plays a part in experience. An older player is more likely to gain experience/routine than a younger player.

Experience is especially important in close games, but not "un-important in a normal series match.

Leadership

All players has more or less leadership abilities. This is something that is going to affect the performance in the game later on but is not implemented yet. The leadership is graded like this:
Non-existent
Lousy
Poor
Decent
Normal
Talented
Good
Very good
Excellent
Fantastic

Value

Each player has a economic value. The value is based on the attributes level and composition, condition, shape, experience and age. After each training the value is recalculated with the present attributes. The value can both increase and decrease on the players.

Birthdays

Players that are promoted from the youth section get the actual day of promotion as birthday, and that same day will show as player day of arrival in the player history. When starting a new team all players are given randomly assigned birthdays, and the player history will show team starting day as player day of arrival.

Goalies

Flexibility: A goalie must have good agility to be able tomove quickly between the posts. A goalie who lacks in agility will not be able to keep up side to side.

Reflexes: A good goalie has good reflexes. If the goalie's view is blocked and he sees the puck very late, good reflexes are crucial.

Intelligence: This attribute determines how a goalie "reads" the game. This is good when a team is shorthanded in boxplay and in a counter attack so he knows when a shot or a pass is coming.

Aggressiveness: An aggressive goalie works harder to stop the puck. He won't give up without throwing himself in front of the goal in order to save the puck from going in.

Defense: This attribute comes into play when working with a defender. Without defensive cooperation the puck could unncessarily slide into the goal.

Close Play: A goalie who is good at his short game can handle just about any situation near the goal. He is good at blocking the puck in the right position.

Stamina: Stamina is important for any player. When playing a man short, any goalie that has poor stamina will have a problem keeping up with the players. Stamina is dynamic and is affected by any competative game played. Here and there a player needs to work on his fitness and stamina to make up for what he loses in matches.

Form: Form shows if the goalie is in good shape or not. A goalie with high form plays better during a match.

Defenders and Forwards

Speed: A player who is fast can skate away from his opponent making it easier to counter attack. He can hunt for pucks dumped in the attack zone.

Goal scoring:A forward without goal scoring skills has a hard time finding his target....the goal. Goalscoring is both being at the right place at the right time, as well as how good you are at shooting the puck. For example, this is useful for a back shot or shooting from the neutralzone.

Intelligence: A player with a good understanding of the game (intelligence) is a joy to watch. This player can be very helpful throughout the game as well as a great help in defense where he can break the passing game like no other player can.

Aggressiveness: An aggressive player keeps the game at higher tempo on the ice. He gives 110% in all close combat situations. In defense, the difference with a player with high Aggression is that he will throw himself to cover a shot while players with low aggressiveness may allow the shot to go through.

Passing: This attribute, together with Intelligence describes how good a player is on finding that "perfect shot" that cuts through the entire ice. Passing is used in the entire game in order to be better than just a good and simple pass. It's never fun to pass the puck to the wrong team.

Defense: For a forward, defense is good to have. It is how good a player works at "home" after an attack play. it is also how well a forward works in the defensive zone. For a defender it means that you work correctly in defending the puck. Going to the correct side of the net in a tight situation and keeping the opposing forwards away from your net.

Stamina: Stamina is important for any player.A player with good stamina plays all matches without getting tired. When playing a man short on the ice or overtaking your opponent during a play requires stamina.

Form: Form shows if the player is in good shape or not. A player with high form plays better during a match.

Best and Latest match rating

To get a rating for BM (best match) and LM (latest match) the following is required:

  • A player must have completed a competative match, cup or series game
  • A player cannot have been injured during that game/match
  • The game in question is NOT a friendly match as these matches do not give ratings for BM (best match) or LM (latest match)

Player to Staff

You may recruit one of your players as a staff member in your club. The player is hired as an Assistant Coach. Read more about this under the heading "Assistant Coach" in the "Staff" game rule.

Nicknames for players

You have the option of giving your player(s) a nickname. You will find a scrolling list of all the available nicknames in the right hand column on your players page. When a player is sold, the nickname does NOT follow the player. it costs a base fee of 5 LH Credits to give your player a nickname.

Selling a player during a match

If you fire or sell a player before 18.00 (06 PM) the player will not show up in your days lineup and thus must be replaced by another player. If you fire or sell a player after 18.00 (06 PM) on a game day, and the player is in your lineup, the player will play the game and then leave your club after the game is finished.

Retirement

A player on LiveHockey retires at the earliest, at 35 years of age. All players now have individual retirement. Before a player's last season, you the manager will be sent a message with a players intent to retire after the end of the coming season. You may, if you wish, try to persuade the player to continue another season. You have one attempt to persuade the player. The younger the player, the greater the chance is that you can persuade a player to continue another season. Should the player accept, he plays one more season with your team, and during the coming season you have the opportunity to try to persuade him to play another year, etc. Should the player not accept your offer, he will stop playing and retire when the season is over. Should you wish to “save” him, you can induct him in your club's Hall of Fame, see more in the Hall of Fame. When the player retires/stops playing he and his stats disappear from the game.

Hall of Fame

To choose a player for your Hall of Fame the player needs to have played at least four seasons (365 days) in your club and be at least 34 years old. Once you have selected the player for your club Hall of Fame, you can not sell him nor can you fire him. The player plays the whole season before finishing his career as a player. You have the ability to make him a trainer during the last season. A player that has been hired as a trainer can as well be chosen into the club’s Hall of Fame.

You must have LH Pro to be able to induct a player into the Hall of Fame. You may select up to three players when you have LH Pro. Should you wish to select more than three players you can increase the number of players purchasing and using LH Credits. Each extra inductee costs 5 LH Credits.

If your LH Pro goes out and you enable LH Pro again, all your inducted players remain as well as the extra places you have purchased.

Player faces

Every player has a face. All players where the owner has LH Pro presents the player with a face. Players without an owner with LH Pro presented with a gray silhouette. The faces shuffled between a number of different pictures in different shades of head, ears, nose, eyes, eyebrows, mouth and hair. Some players also have a beard or mustache.

Smaller pictures of faces also presented on page Team line up and when to select your team for the match.
